Brace for a sizzling Tuesday
The mercury is expected to hit 36 degrees Celsius again on Tuesday before a cold front brings down the maximum temperature to 28 degrees on Thursday, forecasters said.
According to the local weather bureau, Tropical Depression Bailu made landfall in Zhangzhou, southwestern Fujian Province, on Sunday morning and its peripheral cloud system dumped some showers on parts of the city, mostly in the eastern and northern areas, in the afternoon.
The bureau issued a yellow lightning alert at 2:31pm to warn about south-to-north thundershowers within six hours, with precipitation of 20 to 30 millimeters.
After Bailu, a subtropical high pressure will take control of the city on Monday and Tuesday and push the high up to 35 and 36 degrees with afternoon showers in some parts.
Starting on Tuesday, a cold front will move southwards and begin affecting the city. The cold air will collide with the city's warm air, bringing some significant downpours.
The maximum temperature will cool down to 31 degrees on Wednesday and 28 degrees on Thursday. It will bounce back a bit to 30 degrees on Friday but fall to the high 20's again over the weekend and early next week.
The skies will remain a mix of clouds and showers this week.
